Now open the Material Editor by clicking the Material Button in the Main Toolbar. First sample slot is selected by default. Click on the Diffuse Map button of this material and then select Bitmap in the Material/Map Browser window.
In the Select Bitmap Image File dialogue box , navigate to the Max root directory > Maps > Ground and choose GRASS2.JPG.
