In this first tutorial of the "3D kitchen" suite we will learn how to model a traditional kitchen door together with a basic unit.
Traditional Kitchen (3D Studio Max modeling tutorial) - step 2
We will start in the Front Viewport with a Box (Length: 75; Width: 60; Height: 1.5; Length Segs: 7; Width Segs: 9; Height Segs: 1) which we will convert to an Editable Poly (or add an Edit Poly modifier). Go to Vertex sub-object mode and check Ignore Backfacing.

Move the top part vertices as shown in the image above. Move the second-from-bottom row of vertices down a bit as well. Double-check that no vertices on the back face were moved.
