Go into Poly sub-object mode and select the row of polygons as you see in the above image. Then hit the Detach button and - after checking the Detach To Element checkbox - click OK.
Repeat the procedure with the middle row of polygons and then with the last one.
Switch to the side face. Select the top row of polygons and notice that this row goes perpendicular to the rows selected on the top face. Detach the three rows of polygons as you did before.
